Chop Chop Inc demo walkthrough — early objectives and the basic production loop

The free Chop Chop Inc demo on Steam is a complete slice of the opening loop — enough to learn the chopping, crafting, and selling rhythm before you buy. This walkthrough covers its objectives in order and flags where the full release behaves differently.

Before you start: the demo's ground rules

  • No autosave. Save manually and often. This is the single most-reported demo pain point.
  • Demo-era naming. Some machine orders and resource names changed for launch — learn the loop, not the exact recipes.
  • Seven hidden ducks. A community contest ran on the demo build; see the duck locations guide for the route.

Objective 1: the tutorial

Follow Chester's opening tasks: collect the files, read the termination email, and pick up your axe. Practise the core mechanic — chopping birch by aiming for the center line to halve trunks. Only aligned hits count, and this stays true in the full release.

Objective 2: first crafting stations

Place the saw horse and workbench. Turn logs into planks at the saw horse, and learn beam crafting at the bench — Q and E rotate pieces during assembly. Loot every container you pass: old notebooks and electronics recycle into useful parts.

Objective 3: repair the drone pad and sell

Craft small birch beams, repair the drone landing pad, place an item, and press the red button to ship it. This first sale teaches the entire economic loop: craft, ship, earn Tree Coins, reinvest.

Objective 4: food, stamina, and tools

Set up a cooking station — fried eggs are community-observed to restore stamina — and find the grindstone for tool upgrades. Exercise equipment such as treadmills and weight benches improves character stats in the full release; release-build reports describe the stamina gains as permanent, although the demo does not document an exact increase.

Objective 5: the duck hunt (optional)

Seven ducks hide across the demo map, including one across a chasm of floating rocks. Save before every jump, and know that speed upgrades make the route easier.

What the demo locks away

The full release adds the regions and systems the demo fences off: walnut across the bridge, city contracts and the mission board, powered machines, NPC helpers, and the redesigned UI for missions, stats, resources, and production. If the demo's loop clicks for you, the full game is that loop with room to grow.

What carries into the full release

  • Center-line chopping discipline
  • Station placement habits — saw horse near trees, bench beside it
  • The craft-ship-reinvest rhythm
  • Save-often paranoia (less needed, still healthy)
  • Recipe pinning and container looting

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Chop Chop Inc questions.

Is the Chop Chop Inc demo still available?

Yes — the free demo remains on the Steam page after the full release, so you can try the opening loop before buying.

Does the demo autosave?

No. Players repeatedly warn that the demo does not autosave — make manual saves often, especially before platforming.

How many ducks are in the demo?

Seven, hidden as a community contest. Our duck locations guide covers the route, including the floating-rock chasm jump.

Do demo recipes match the full release?

Not exactly. Machine orders and resource names were adjusted for launch, so treat demo habits as concepts and re-verify recipes in the full game.
